How Combination Padlocks Are Made

Combination padlocks are used in many situations. Many people are most familiar with using them on lockers at school or in the workplace. Watch this video for a look at how combination padlocks are made.

First, the base plate is assembled and then put into the casing. The trip lever spring, which scrambles a closed locking mechanism, is then assembled and added to the casing. The shackle is fit through the holes with one end positioned against the trip lever. Two stacked discs called tumblers are then added. The indicator button is attached to the dial, and then the third tumbler is inserted.
